Laughing Kookaburra, Arita Porcelain Plate
A navy and white porcelain plate featuring an Australian icon. Also called laughing jackass, the laughing kookaburra is the largest member of the kingfisher family and is widely known for its call, which resembles an echoing human laugh. A monogamous bird, it retains the same partner for life. Adapted well to live alongside humans in city parks and suburban gardens as well as dry eucalypt forests and woodlands, the name kookaburra comes from Wiradhuri, a traditional Aboriginal language. It is the bird emblem of NSW.
