A couple of blocks from the apartment where we stayed in Lyon is a large and beautiful park of several hundred hectares called Cite d’internationale. The park has a decent-size lake with paddleboats and canoes for hire, numerous ponds and several enormous greenhouses full of exotic tropical plants. Deer roam freely about the grounds and there is an enclosed zoo containing monkeys, apes, giraffes and elephants. The tree in this picture was nicely lit by the dappled light of the late summer sun streaming through the surrounding foliage.
This fine art, limited-edition reproduction is produced under the watchful eye of and hand signed by the artist. Strictly limited to 300, it is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity signed by the Editor in Chief. Reg Mombassa is the pseudonym of Chris O'Doherty, a New Zealand-born artist and musician.
Resident in Australia, he is as well known for his musical exploits - founder and former member of the popular Australian band Mental As Anything and member of Dog Trumpet (alongside his brother Peter O'Doherty) - as he is for his art.
Worldwide, he is perhaps better known for his irreverent designs for surfwear company Mambo Graphics, many of which were later adapted for use in a segment of the Sydney 2000 Olympics closing ceremony.
Reg Mombassa is represented by Watters Gallery.
